Experience providing the best STEM programs for kids in NYC
Pixel Academy offers the most relevant, relatable, and cutting-edge STEM education for kids in NYC. We convert fun, popular interfaces like Minecraft and YouTube into critical learning experiences, teaching fundamentals in tech topics like coding, 3D design, animation, and media production. Our year-round, expert instructors personalize our signature, 90-minute, hands-on workshops after school at our Brooklyn and TriBeCa locations, using our hand-crafted curriculum and teaching methodologies. Our after-school Tracks are designed to use your child’s interests to guide them through learning advanced STEM skills and cutting-edge technology.
We’ve carefully crafted each Track and packed them with innovative and exciting projects that are geared to specific age groups. By limiting the age range within a group we’re able to best match your child’s learning speed and style.
We’ve divided each Track into three seasons to help you coordinate and plan your child’s school year. Every season has fresh projects, allowing it to stand on its own, and giving you the flexibility to take a single season without committing to the full year.
This brand new, advanced track takes the art of game design to a whole new level. Using Unity, participants will learn the tricks of the trade that game developers use to create fun! Starting with a foundation of game themes and the theory of fun, these kids will start to create an open world exploration game. With constant attention to the user experience, they will learn how to create mind-blowing effects like waterfalls, smoke, and fire using particle systems. Towards the end of the track, participants will learn how to design a great graphical user interface (GUI) and create an interactive experience with scripted dialog! This is our most advanced game design class so far but all are welcome!
Minecraft has been one of our staple tools in introducing kids to technology. This track is the culmination of our years of experience and curriculum perfection around a variety of Minecraft topics. The seasons in this track cover an introduction to coding, 3D modeling and printing, electronic circuits, and logic-based puzzles. This track also is a great introduction to the Makerspace with projects utilizing the 3D printers, robots, and laser cutter!
We designed this track for kids that are passionate about learning to code! These seasons are all about using the new Raspberry Pi and coding in Python to complete fun projects! No prior coding knowledge is required and participants get to keep their Pi!
This track focuses exclusively on the digital arts with each season covering new elements and techniques for creating videos. Instead of just watching YouTube videos, kids in this track will learn how to make their own! Kids will learn how to record and edit live video, create motion graphics, effects, and music, and create stop-motion animations!
This advanced track is designed to introduce our older kids to the art and science of engineering and fabrication. Each season offers a new project that covers advanced Makerspace tools that are normally not accessible in the regular Makerspace!
This track takes kids’ love (and obsession) with Roblox and uses it to teach the fundamentals of game design, digital art, and animation. Over the course of three seasons, participants will create different games in Roblox Studio, and along the way learn about 3D modeling and animation!
Is Fortnite all your kid talks about? We designed this track to use their love of Fortnite to learn professional elements of game design! The season’s track combines a mix of playing Fornite with friends and learning how to design, 3D model and build their own games using the elements of Fortnite! Keep in mind that unlike our other tracks, this track is about 50% playing Fortnite.
